I know that I would kill for Elle Fanning’s perfectly straight hair that graces the most recent issue of Teen Vogue magazine, and I would take a good guess that most of you guys would too. Everyone wants healthy, silky, smooth and straight hair. Almost every model and actress has it, and we all drool over it! At the end of the year you may have lost all hope in having hair that even comes close to Miss Fanning’s, but pull your hair out of that lazy ponytail and give it another shot! A new year means a new chance at getting your hair to look just the way you want it. Here are some of my tips and product suggestions to get your hair looking its best come January 1st!
I’ve done several posts about hair treatments and deep conditioners in the past, but they are still just as important! The Nexxus Humectress Hydrating Treatment Deep Conditioner is an excellent product to keep your hair healthy and full of life. Perfect hair starts in the shower before you even start drying and styling. Give your locks a good coating of this and leave it in to soak for 3-5 minutes. I usually take this time to shave my legs. Now I pull down my shower head and turn the water to cold for a good rinse of my hair. The cold water will lock down your hair cuticles leaving you with super smooth strands right out of the shower!
I always go on and on about how important heat protectant is, so I’ll make this one short and sweet. TRESemme’s Thermal Creations Heat Tamer Protective Spray is my favorite. Spray your hair down before drying and comb it through. This will shield your hair from any damage from the harsh heat of the blow dryer. You also need to do another light mist of this once your hair is dry and before you use any type of straightener. It’s a really simple step, and you’ll hate yourself for skipping it later on when you are plagued with brittle split and broken ends!
A little bit of this Fekkai Coiff Controle Ironless Straightening Balm will give you a helping hand while blowing out your locks. Rub this through, section your hair into layers and get to drying! Grab a round brush and pull your hair out and under as you dry. Another little tip, hold the end of your dryer toward the ground. This will keep your cuticles sealed and leave everything as smooth as possible!
As I said before, go ahead and spray your hair with some heat protectant again before you start going with your straightener. Now section your hair off again like you did before drying. I use the Original CHI Ceramic Hairstyling Iron, and absolutely love it! I like to continuously comb through my hair as I go to make sure everything is looking good. I always lift my straightener up at the roots to keep my hair from sticking to my head and looking really flat.
Brush through your locks with a paddle brush, preferably one with boar bristles. Now I like to give my hair a spray with Organix Cherry Blossom Ginseng Shine Spray. It’s a really light mist that smells amazing! Spray your favorite hairspray on a comb and run it through your hair one last time to keep everything in place!
